for me i use two metal washers... and one plastic one... i put a metal washer on each side of the strap... then on the bottom goes one plastic one... then i put the screw threw and screw it into the guitar... works great and cheap cost me like a buck total for everything..

Is this safe? Strap locks aren't that expensive and I never trusted cheap ones and home made. The last thing I want is smashing my guitar on the floor in the middle of the gig.
Also, how deep do you put the screw? Can you damage anything if you put it too deep?
