Not best, but your personal favorite. I'm going with XXX because of the Dark Compressed tone with killer lowend growl and the fact it's 3 channels.
Stock tubes in the XXX isn't that good. However, change out the preamps tubes, throw in a couple 12AT7s or 12DW7s in V1 and V2... and throw some JJ 6L6GCs in there.. and Voila. You have an unbeatable peavey amp. (also try some KT77s instead 6L6) My second favorite Peavey is the 6505+. I love the tightness, versatility, and 3 channels. Peavey is doing a great job making quality, good sounding amps. Why can't Mesa and Marshall sell so cheap? |
