Default need some pickup help asap - 05-05-2008, 02:06 AM

hey guys, ok i'll try to make this short, i need you pickup guys to help me out.

I just installed a Seymour Duncan Screamin demon humbucking in the bridge position in my PRS, my problem is it sound very thin a weak, no distortion to it no bass.. and my neack pickup is a epiphone nickle plated pickup, not sure the model but it still sounds fine, what could be the problem??

The wiring is easy im sure i have that right!

HELP!

Did you refer to the Seymour Duncan wiring diagram?

i refered to the diagram that came with the pickups, for my pot setup. I have seperate volumes and tones for each pickup and a 3 way selector, pretty much a LP setup., i basically7 did the following:

the white and red wire from duncan pickup are not used
the green wire and bare wire a connected to the top of the pot
and the black wire is connected the the wire tab on the bottom left of the pot
and that pretty much it,

I read something about phasing? it sounds confusing, but what i get from it is that the magnets conflict and one of the pickup magnets has to be flip so that they can be used together, but it sounds easy just to buy another pickups that would work together, but i'm not sure how that works.

I lost some sleep last night, wondering about it

Ah, the one I posted prior was 1 volume / 1 tone and 5-way switch selector.

Here is a 2 volume / 2 tone and 3-way switch

See if your directions line up with that.

Also, if you want to take a peak, here are more options:

I'm not much of a pickup guru. But what you are saying does make sense and it does sound like a phasing problem. (mixed up wires)

When I installed my SH-6 Distortion, I remember that I had to tie two wires together (maybe red and white) -- but that would be different because it was a 1-volume.

ya red and white wires have to be twisted together, aas far as phase on pick-ups goes, there is an easier solution to pulling a glued / epoxied / permanant magnet off..... reverse the polarity of the pick-up, wire it in backwards....

stuff it....... then bake it.......

hey sandman that wiring is close, but i don't have the push pull tap coil part so there less wiring. Are you guys sure im suppose to twist the red and white together,? That won't ruin my new pup?

lol no problem bro, yeah other than plugging a guitar pick-up into a wall you aren't going to damage it, hooking it up back wards or the wrong way isn't going to hurt it in anyway, just make it not work if it's wired wrong :-D short of a serious breakdown and an awesome stream of luck e.g. a short in a preamp tube, and a coupling capacitor on a tube amp BOTH failing at the same time, better odds of getting struck by lightning.... you aren't going to hurt a pick-up short of wiring a AC plug on it and plugging it in, no normal tinkering is going to harm them

stuff it....... then bake it.......
