Man Brings Beer to Drunk Driving Hearing: -

Quote:
There is practically nothing a defendant can do that's worse than showing up 90 minutes late for his felony DWI hearing.
But Keith Gruber found a way to make the judge disregard that little faux pas entirely.
It may have been the fact that he arrived in court obviously intoxicated. It may have been the open can of Busch beer that he was carrying. Or it may have been that he failed to share any of the four more cans of Busch he carried into the hallowed halls of justice in a paper bag.
Whichever was the most offending act, a polite exchange followed:
Sullivan County, New York Judge Frank LaBuda asked Keith if he enjoyed his “liquid lunch.” Keith replied that indeed he did, but now he was sorry. (Have you ever noticed that intoxicated people are almost always angry or sorry or both?) Then it was off to jail with no bail.
If that “no bail” part seems a bit harsh, we should note that at the time of his courtroom cocktail hour Gruber was out on $30,000 cash bail resulting from prior DWI episodes.
