So, I'm thinking of getting my first effect for my setup.

I'm currently taking lessons but looking to change up the sound a bit to have some fun occasionally.

Should I buy a single effect or go for something like the Beheringer V-Amp 3?

I was thinking about the V-amp as I'm not playing for anyone but myself so if i need to 'pause' and change and effect I can and don't need to do it on the fly.

Any thoughts?

A multi-effects unit might be a good way for you to go, so you can experiment with various different sounds and combinations and see what you really like before plunking down big money on high quality stomp boxes. The down side to this is that you can spend too much time playing around with the fx, when you should be practicing, but hey...

I'm hardly an expert on multi-fx (I'm a stompbox kinda guy), but I can't say that I'd recommend the Behringer. They tend to build pretty low quality stuff, and not be very reliable. I would maybe look for something used by Boss, Zoom, Digitech or Line 6 instead.

You are right.... I'm a geek and tweaker so maybe I should concentrate on practicing and not experimenting....

Maybe I'll wait until I get beyond the beginner lessons before playing around too much...

I would definitely go for a multi-effects unit. Stomp boxes are great, but I find that a multi-effects unit does a great job and gets the job done for way less $$.

I like Vox and Line 6 units the best. I never messed around with Behringer. You might want to research the quality and complaints.

I don't know what your budget is, but check out the Vox Tonelab. If you are looking for something less pricey, check out the Line 6 POD. I've also read a lot of good stuff in the new(er) Digitech stuff.

Modeling units such as POD/Tonelab/RP-series/(maybe Behringer too) are also great if you'd like to record to your PC or Laptop. There's a really coll free recording program available to download online called Audacity. Check it out.

I looked at the Digitech RP355 http://www.digitech.com/products/Mul...ects/RP355.php -- I've found it for about $199.

Any input?? Maybe another brand/model at the same price with the same/more effects that anyone knows of?

Well in comparison, you can get a Line 6 Floor POD Plus or the Vox Tonelab ST for $199 also. I like the Vox Tonelab because it has a 12AX7 preamp tube built in to give the tone more warmth. - However, the Line 6 video below really pimps out the POD Plus. Sounds good but more digital sounding than the Vox IMO.

hey i've seen some people using ZOOM pedal effects how are those for multi-effects compared to Line 6 POD
