Bayonetwork mentioned this and I thought it would make for a good thread.
The Valve King head straight out of the box is okay. But the cool thing about the Valve King head is you can do some simple mods to make it a great amp. First, Tube upgrades. The stock tubes in the Valve King don't do the amp much justice. Upgrade the preamp and power tubes to really bring this amp to life.
Another thing about the Valve King, is don't use the matching cab. They're not good. You'll want to use a Marshall, Mesa, or a nice 4x12 cab with Vintage 30s. (that's my preference anyhow.)
With few things, you now have a GREAT amp at a great price. Very tight and rich sounding and it gets better. Boost the amp and it'll be a rig that you can use in any situation. Live gigs, recording, or just jamming.
Overall, the Valve King is underrated. It's built Peavey quality that we all come to love, sounds great after upgrade, and priced so you don't have to break the bank.
You can do a search on youtube to hear some nice Valve King tones... Post some here when you find some you like.

can you recommend me a 212 cab? or will that do no good to the sound?
and do you know a way to switch the channels, but with a boost on the leadchannel to the regular cleanchannel without the boost?

Actually I play my heads through a 2x12. I love 2x12s because they are easier to haul around and they sound great... and you can add another if ever so desired, but not needed. A half stack isn't needed in any situation, 2x12s are great. Sorry for the ramble, had lots of coffee. :P
Like I said before, I like V30s. But that is personal preference. You could check into Avatar or something. I use a Mesa 212 Recto cab with V30s. It's great!
