A multi-effects unit might be a good way for you to go, so you can experiment with various different sounds and combinations and see what you really like before plunking down big money on high quality stomp boxes. The down side to this is that you can spend too much time playing around with the fx, when you should be practicing, but hey...
I'm hardly an expert on multi-fx (I'm a stompbox kinda guy), but I can't say that I'd recommend the Behringer. They tend to build pretty low quality stuff, and not be very reliable. I would maybe look for something used by Boss, Zoom, Digitech or Line 6 instead.
