Default Valve King Head. - 12-14-2007, 07:35 PM

Bayonetwork mentioned this and I thought it would make for a good thread.

The Valve King head straight out of the box is okay. But the cool thing about the Valve King head is you can do some simple mods to make it a great amp. First, Tube upgrades. The stock tubes in the Valve King don't do the amp much justice. Upgrade the preamp and power tubes to really bring this amp to life.

Another thing about the Valve King, is don't use the matching cab. They're not good. You'll want to use a Marshall, Mesa, or a nice 4x12 cab with Vintage 30s. (that's my preference anyhow.)

With few things, you now have a GREAT amp at a great price. Very tight and rich sounding and it gets better. Boost the amp and it'll be a rig that you can use in any situation. Live gigs, recording, or just jamming.

Overall, the Valve King is underrated. It's built Peavey quality that we all come to love, sounds great after upgrade, and priced so you don't have to break the bank.

You can do a search on youtube to hear some nice Valve King tones... Post some here when you find some you like.
