don't lend important gear away

My dad and brothers came up to visit me and stayed at my apartment for a few days. while we were out and i was showing them the city, the car broke down and we were able to barely get to a gas station.

luckily, a friend i hadn't seen in a year was getting gas and he gave us a ride home. he's a hip hop producer, and really good at it, and we agreed to keep in touch. about a week later he asked if he could borrow my mxl 990 condenser. now, this is my only condenser at the moment so it was my best quality, but being grateful for earlier, i agreed.

he brought it back the following week with many apologies because some of his guests were very rough with it during recording. it was all banged up, with at least 2 significant dents in it. the stand height adjuster is rusted. and he forgot to bring my pop filter.

fortunately it still works fine (which i find remarkable) but since it looks ugly i feel a greater urge to replace it. too bad i won't get funds like that until this coming fall. :(

yeah that is never a good saying "i told you so" haha my gf gives me that one a lot

on a second note i forgot to mention i lent my squier 51 to a friend before and i modded it to have a bridge with a tremolo and when i got it back the tremolo was broken out and couldn't get it back in i was alittle disappointed but the guitar worked fine still and just figured i would fix it someday...well that day has not come yet :frownz:

that sucks...

well i can't say i never messed up someone elses stuff... my cat knocked over my friend's bong in the middle of the night... i woke up and found it smashed in my living room... still in the box - it provided no protection and it was just tipped over, not knocked off of something

Sorry to hear your mic got banged up. I've been lucky, I actually lent a guitar to a friend a couple times when his were out of commission and he had a show. Of course, it wasn't a Gibson or anything (an inexpensive Fernandes Native X, which he was fond of because of it's silver spakle finish, among other things), but still I didn't want it to get banged up.

yeah, i'm a very trusting person, and i still trust this guy. it seems like it was out of his control, just some bad guests. but yeah it sucks. at least it still works.

silver sparkle finish? got any pics?
