Yeah, I would think that the plastic is too thin and bendy on most coffee can lids.

Credit cards and similar thickness ID-type stiff plastic cards work well though. You can make emergency picks out of credit cards too.

I personally don't have strap locks, just because I've never had problems with my strap falling. One of my friends also uses washers though, and they work great as an effective inexpensive straplock*

*(I'll post this in the tips and tricks thread too if it hasn't been mentioned)

I have always used regular straps on my acoustic. Never have had a problem with them.

Acoustics tend to be lighter than many electrics. Plus electric players tend to move around a lot more with their guitars, which is where straps can get problematic.
