Home Brew piezo pick-up?
Anyone ever make their own?
I was thinking of giving it a try. I like tinkering with things such as this, but don't want to go through the albeit small expense if I won't be able to get a halfway decent sound. This would not be for gigging...just for plugging in at home. |

A quick Google comes up with this: http://web.mit.edu/kumpf/www/Acoustics/main.html
It looks like a fun little project, and has audio samples that sound... alright. Of course, you don't know how the guitar sounded acoustically to begin with. All things considered, I think judging by the clips it would definitely be cool for playing at home. If you end up making one, post some clips and stuff about how it came out! |
Re: Home Brew piezo pick-up?
i've done these before they are pretty good, even better with active pre-amps, my acoustic has a homebrew peizo bridge element, a normal single coil pickup in the sound hole, a homebrew pre-amp, and a jazz bass type electronics setup (2 volumes 1 tone), so i can blend the single coil and peizo

Thanks both. I will indeed give this ago. Warm weather is increasing my honey-do list, but I'll get it done and will report back.
