Installed a set of EMG HZ [H4] in my Ibanez RG520
Easy process btw. :hbang:
The EMG H4 are really nice pickups, they're nice and punchy and sound really good in the Mahogony Ibanez body :hookem: I'll get some pictures up Monday... and soon after, hopefully some sound clips. :shred: |

Just wondering, why'd you go the passive route? Is it because the body needed to be routed to go active?

Re: Installed a set of EMG HZ [H4] in my Ibanez RG520
I have a RG520 with a 85/81 combo and it crushes through a MK-III and Uber :hbang:
I have a old (jackson style)ESP horizon that I am gonna put 85 an sa in and run it at 18v. Has anyone else did that? |

HZ H4 and HZ H4A are nice pickups and for extra cash... add the preamp, and you have the EMG 81/85. (per the emg website) |
Re: Installed a set of EMG HZ [H4] in my Ibanez RG520
i used to have some 707HZs in my old 7 string and they souded horrible...threw a set of actives in there and it sounded great. so i didn't have a great experience with HZs but hey man if you're happy - :hbang:
i've got a 81/85 setup (18v mod) in my RGT and it's amazing, i couldn't imagine anything else in there. |
Re: Installed a set of EMG HZ [H4] in my Ibanez RG520
H4 are the only HZs that I like. There are some junk HZ models availble, like H1s, H2s are no good at all. The H3s are okay.
H4's are nice for the money. They do require a tone capacitor value of .47 microfarad upgrade or they'll squeal and feedback really bad. (just like any passive EMG) |
i have th HZ4 and 4A in my 71' univox les paul copy and they blow my ibanez rgt42 out of the water. ( ibanez has seymour duncan tb-6 and sh-2n) if you've tried the h1 h2 or h3 and their respective neck counterparts then you know hz4's are the way to go. good choice
