Agile AL-2000
Would the agile AL-2000 be a step up from a Fender MIM Strat?
I wanna play hard rock and I have decided on a vox ad15vt amp  |
Re: Agile AL-2000
Agile rock. They are great guitars for the mulla
|
Re: Agile AL-2000
The Agile LP would probably be more suited to hard rock. The indirect impression I get (I have an Agle SG) is that a 2000-level LP will be about the same quality level as a MIM Fender, or of Epiphone.

Re: Agile AL-2000
Definetly would be an upgrade get the agile, Mr. Sandman would agree
|
Re: Agile AL-2000
I do agree. Agile's are amazing guitars. (I'd like to get an AL-3000 Root Beer!)

Re: Agile AL-2000
Agile makes an incredible guitar! I just got this Agile yesterday and it is stunning....absolutely flawless....in fit and finish and in playing and sound!

And the customer service at Rondo Music cannot be beat! |
Re: Agile AL-2000
Now that is a beautiful masterpiece PS! I really like the nat spalted too, great choice indeed! What model is that?
I've been a HUGE fan of Agile for quite some time now and would recommend their instruments to anyone, from beginners, novice, bedroom players, to the working professional musician. Rondo guitars are perfection. Welcome to the boards PS. :sweet: |
Re: Agile AL-2000
It's the Agile Dauntless SBD Spalted Natural
|
Re: Agile AL-2000
Nice, I also like the Rootbeer. Love the color.
|
Re: Agile AL-2000
I'm definitely getting an Agile. Not sure what color. I do like the spalted look,,, I subscribed to rondo's newsletter and they email me when they have specials,,, so I'm waiting for a clearance deal

Re: Agile AL-2000
I'm very happy with my Agile Valkyrie II. Got it on closeout for $99 + shipping. Requires no upgrades at all.

I've bought two guitars from Kurt and am about to buy a third in the next week.

Re: Agile AL-2000
I just ordered my 3rd guitar from Kurt @ Rondo Music. This time I ordered an SX Strat. I want to see if what I have heard is true...that the SX guitars are very close to the Agile in in quality. I also was intrigued by the particular Strat that I ordered. It's solid mahogany with two P-90 pickups and a stop tail instead of a tremolo. Sounds kinda like a Frankenstrat and I'm anxiously awaiting delivery. I'm always wanted to replace a Strat that I had many years ago, but I just don't use a temolo and have always hated the inherent problem of staying in tune that accompanies them. Having the stop tail similar to an LP should fill the bill. I have no idea what to expect out of the P-90's but it should be interesting. The solid mahogany body should give it a good sustain. It has a maple neck and maple fretboard, which I've always liked. All in all, this guitar should be a hoot! We'll see in a couple of days when it gets here. I'll report back with what I find out. I'm expecting a guitar with the characteristics and sound of an LP and the look of a Strat.

Re: Agile AL-2000
Wow, I've never heard of this company before. I've been wanting to get a telecaster with a rosewood fretboard for a long time now, and I'm wondering if Rondo Music offers a tele style guitar like that which would be of good quality...
|
Re: Agile AL-2000
Rondo Music does carry several versions of a Tele in both SX and in Agile brands. Check them out.

Re: Agile AL-2000
What's cool about RondoMusic is they're always putting new stuff up. With that said, I could only find one tele-style with rosewood.
http://www.rondomusic.com/stl62bsb.html SX are okay, it's their lower line. It's $110 guitar, so I wouldn't expect too much. |
Re: Agile AL-2000
I actually found a Douglas version of a telecaster with a rosewood fingerboard! I was wondering if this would be of decent quality?

Re: Agile AL-2000
I'm not familiar with Douglas, but I'd buy it just on Rondo's reputation. I think Kurt would make you happy one way or another.
Here is another option, this place also has an excellent reputation. http://store.guitarfetish.com/ |

That's a nice looking axe btw, I love the wood grain with red. Looks sharp. I bought an $89 SX from Rondo and it was decent for my niece. Of course the tuners, pickups, pots weren't that of high quality and it needed a set-up, but overall it was decent. I'm thinking Douglas is a step up from SX and Agile is a step up from Douglas. |
Re: Agile AL-2000
Kurt has such a great reputation that I doubt he would risk it by carrying a guitar that wasn't up to snuff, plus at $130 what have you got to lose. Even if you need to upgrade a few components.....you have plenty of room to do that before you even get close to an inferior Fender. I'm sure the body and neck are quality or Kurt wouldn't have it on his site. So you could upgrade tuners, pots, and pups.....and still be under $300.
|
Re: Agile AL-2000
man, now I got too many options! I found an Xaviere guitar that was pretty sweet looking with a rosewood fretboard and it appears to have better quality everything. I'm still stuck between that one and the Douglas guitar.

Re: Agile AL-2000
I have an a Xaviere and the body and neck are EXCELLENT, however...the electronics were not as good as those I got from Rondo. The Xaviere's have super fine necks.
|
Re: Agile AL-2000
I just got an e-mail about this one... Man it's pretty, but I don't know how much i'm gonna have to upgrade...

Re: Agile AL-2000
At most I would imagine tuners and pups......but the pups might also be just fine.
I wouldn't upgrade anything until you've had a week or two of playing it under your belt. You might find that it suits you just the way it is. Good luck....and enjoy! |
Re: Agile AL-2000
heck yeah, for only $130 for the axe + $30 for tuners, you'll have yourself a hell of a guitar. And if you don't like it, Kurt is good about returns. (as long as you make the return before doing any mods.)
|
Re: Agile AL-2000
What kind of tuners would you advise?
|
Re: Agile AL-2000
Depends on your price range... you can get some
decent Wilkinson tuners - $26 - www.guitarfetish.com good Grover tuners - $45 - www.guitarcenter.com excellent Sperzel Locking Tuners - $65 - www.stewmac.com Just make sure they are a step up from what comes stock, which very well could be excellent, and then buy the best you can afford. The prices and models above are just for examples ....you may be able to find other equally good tuners at even better prices. You can also go the Ebay route with used tuners and new tuners. Give the installed standard set a good workout.....you may find they fill the bill quite aptly! |
Re: Agile AL-2000
Yeah, ebay has Grovers for around $30ish. I'm a fan of grover, probably because it's what is on Gibsons, mid-high end Epiphones and mid-high end Agile

Re: Agile AL-2000
Thanks a lot guys! I really appreciate the advice :2thumbups:

Re: Agile AL-2000
Another good guitar that isn't a household name is Cort Guitars. Brain, I'm sure you heard of Cort. Have you played one?
|
Re: Agile AL-2000
Oddly, I've never played a Cort or a Samick, those are the two biggest MIK companies I think.
|
Re: Agile AL-2000

Oh, just found on wiki that some MIK Ibanez's are built at Cor-Tek. Per serial number on Ibanez: Korean Ibanez Serial Numbers C = Cor-Tek (Cort), S = Samick(1990-1995), S/SQ = Saehan(Sunghan), P = Peerless (Iida), Y = Yoojin, A = Sae-In. Small world, isn't it. |
