What was the first amp you ever bought?
My first bought amp was a mid 70's Crate combo that actually looked like a wood crate. The speaker blew the first month so the warranty covered a replacement which turned out too be a Fender stamped replacement.
Sounded better and never blew up again. I have the thing to this day(couldnt give it away). Its got sterile tone and does a Horrible gain sound but does sound quite good with a modeler in front for low volume home jammin. My first amp I had given to me(Christmas) was a 70's Fender Vibro Champ. God I wish I still had that little wonder. http://www.oaktreeent.com/web_photos..._web_small.jpg |

In a music video we made about 10 years ago I smashed that guitar. But I still have it. Body is split in two. Held together by the pickguard. THinking about either putting it back together , or carving the spring cavity and turning it into a ashtray/conversation piece. Maybe make a case for it, instead. Display it. Whatever. |
Re: What was the first amp you ever bought?
My first amp was a little combo Sears-type amp. Probably had a 10" or 8" speaker. I have no idea what became of it.
However, that amp was a gift. The first amp I bought was one of these: http://www.afn.org/~afn52445/Kustom100.jpg I still have it. A 60's Kustom 100. The amp ain't so hot but the cab kicks behind. Has a 15" J.B. Lansing (pre-JBL company) speaker. I actually used it for bass for part of a year when I switched over to bass in a band I was in and had no proper bass amp. So far as I can tell it didn't hurt the thing, which is pretty amazing. |
Re: What was the first amp you ever bought?
I had a Fender Frontman 15watt. It buzzed so much!
Luckily I've since upgraded to a Roland Cube 30, which I've found to be really loud for its size. |
Re: What was the first amp you ever bought?
Thats the same thing i had the fender frontman, loved that little amp... i have since then upgraded to a mesa boogie roadster stack, I love it!!
the first amp i bought for myself was a Randall RC100SC Combo |

Welcome back Jack

Re: What was the first amp you ever bought?
Peavey Rage - better for use as a drinkholder than amp. At least I didn't know any better.

Re: What was the first amp you ever bought?
Mine was a 60's Montgomery Wards 50 watt 2-12 combo .. Heavy and LOUD!!!

Re: What was the first amp you ever bought?
Mine was an old Peavey T-15 with an amp built into the hardshell case (like this photo). The guitar was really nice, Made in USA -- 1981, Maple neck and fretboard, PAF style pickups and Cream Pickguard. It was my 13th x-mas gift.

Re: What was the first amp you ever bought?
Sandman, did you mean to say P-90, rather than PAF? The T-15 has blade oversized single coil pickups, iirc. So they would be in the P-90 ballpark, but not much like PAF humbuckers.

http://static.flickr.com/20/71021519_a6a90ee6d3_o.jpg It's a cool guitar, with a unique coil split control (1-7 on the tone control is humbucker, 7-10 fades the second coil out in favor of a single coil). If you want info on the T-60 or other T-series guitars or basses (the main bass was called the T-40), check out this site: http://www.PeaveyT-60.com Chip Todd, the T-60 designer, posts there regularly, which is very cool. He's a really nice old dude. I tried referring to him as Mr. Todd out of respect, and he'd have none of it. He's just "Chip" to everyone there. |
Re: What was the first amp you ever bought?
Very cool, thanks for all the info!

Checking E-bay they look like the T-60s are around $300 now, but I'm still intrigued. The whole series looks pretty cool.
