I have a friend who plays in a Death Metal band and he loves his GT-8. 

Right now I'm playing through a Line 6 HD147 300watt head with shortboard.  I'm loving the effects in that beast.  Probably produces the same tonage as the PODxt.

Delay pedals can be used a variety of ways, and all have a ton of different sound options, so they get my vote.

i would have to say the coolest effect is a good quality dely pedal, or possible wah if used well
