Hey. i Had a mesa boogie studio preamp and peavey classic 50/50 poweramp with a behringer 412 cab and i sold the preamp and poweramp and i can either get a triple rec and use it with my current cab. or i could buy a 5150 and a mesa 212. which would be better. (for killswitch engage like tones)

Yeah, 5150 works better for tight thrash type metal. I love Mesa 2x12 cabs.

With that said, the Triple Recto is more flexible (assuming it's 3-channel) and is downright mean.

Pros for Recto
-better resale value
-more tone capabilities
-it's a Mesa :w:
-better cleans
-bigfoot makes switching channels a breeze.
-heavy low-end

Cons for Recto
-more expensive to replace tubes - sextet instead of quads
-active eq, more care needs to be given to find the sweet spot
-Mesa cost more

Pros for 5150
-easy to eq
-cheaper
-dependable (but so is the Recto)
-simple amp
-nice crunch
-you would get the Mesa cab

Cons
-not as flexible
-cleans are sterile

For me, the Triple Recto would be the first choice due to the flexibility. However, if you don't need the flexibility and are looking for something with a more practical price tag, then the 5150 is a great choice.

They are both great amps. :w:

I can't say. I never played the Behringer 4x12 that you speak of. Do you know what speakers?

Basically your delima is getting the Recto means that you have to use a Behringer cab, but if you get the 5150 you can afford the Mesa 2x12?

Do you play clean tones often?

correct. the speakers are jensens. speakers them selves sound great but the cab construction is how you say "the poop" yes? uhh. clean no, not often. and for the last while with my mesa studio preamp i just have my neck pickups volume set low and i flick my pickup selector to go to a clean sound.

Sounds like a great choice. Peavey 5150 are tight and stupid LOUD.

wow im back from the grave, havent posted in soo long but i actually bought a peavey 5150 II a while ago, sold my behringer cab and somehow pulled off a perfect condition 4x12 recto cab :sweet: cant play it alot because im really conjested so my left ear has went like 60 percent deff but it really effects the tones making everything sound bad, then i put an ear plug in it and it sounds better but i still cant dial in my tone but once it gets better ill dial the thing innnnnnnn
