I want to spend around $1500 to $2000. Ive been thinking about Mesa or Marshall. I play alot of VH, Ozzy Kiss, you know classic rock. Maybe i might need it for some gigs. looking for something versitile. Thanks

versitile? mesa dual rect roadster, but i'm bias, because i own one , lol.. but its a great all round stly e amp, and if you want the very classica marshall sound just change the tubes in it, and presto!!

But if all your going to play is VH, Kiss and older Ozzy then get the marshall jcm800 with an overdrive pedal....

Rob,

Look into the Laney GH50L or VH100 (100-watt 2 channel version)

These amps are great! I have owned three and regret selling them.

I wish I had tone samples for you....

depends on how versitile you need, and mean, sound wise, or features..... mesas typically have more features, and more versitile sound wise, can do some old and all new sounds, but to me they lack something for classic style rock, JCM800s are on the cheap if you are looking at used, they can generally be had for under 1200 dollars, but you can't get them new, modern marshall that was built for classic sound is the "vintage modern" but it's only a single channel amp and to me it sounds like most peavey amps, the marshall DSL isn't a bad amp from the people i talk to, i haven't played one myself, all reports i have heard on the TSL (triple super lead) is stay away lol, only amps i can comment on personally is peavey windsor, XXX, valve king, and 5150.... marshall vintage modern, and JCM800..... and laney GH50L, and i like jackal am slightly biased, i own a peavey windsor it's my "affordable" amp of choice JCM800 sounds can be gotten from it, and it sounds virtually identical to the "vintage modern" and i am anti 6L6 i don't like 6L6 tubes never have and likely never will, my recommendation is get a decent EL34 amp, and re-tube it with JJ 12AX7s and E34Ls

+1 on the GH50L, if i didn't have a windsor i'd get a laney

Ive been using peavey 5150 and 6505+ amp for a long time. they sounded good. but i just got tired of the sound, So im leaning toware Mesa, I really like the Mark IV
and Dual rectos, There great sounding amps, But very pricey

i liked the 5150, the mark IV i have only heard but there are too many knobs on them for me lol, the dual rectos have never got me wet, only mesa amp i have really ever played i cared for were the F-50/F-100

Then you should look at a JSX.

Lots of good opinions here. I also agree with the Mesa Boogie F-50 - F-100. Great amps.

well a marshall JCM800 and a boogie dual recto are entirely different beasts, you are talking apples and oranges, both amps, both heavy amps, but in a different way, both fruits, but different flavors
