how many here go to a pro to have there guitars setup or do you do them your self...

i do my own setups... once in awhile i will take it to a pro..

only reason i learned to do my own was when i was in my band was cheaper for me to learn then spend money for someone else..

I do my own, and for other local bands. Free to help them out. A you-scratch-mine-I-scratch yours deal. I do any tech work, custom paint jobs, amp service, custom pedals, etc. You pay for parts.
I loan gear, in my presence, for recording. Only at one studio where we have a deal and contract.
The name of the business is called, "Scumbag Technologies".

I do my own setups, mostly. I will take a guitar in to a pro for a fret level or re-fret. I too have done custom painting. Years ago I worked in an autbody shop so I got familiar with painting. (10 years of it)

setup myself, no one knows how to do it right for me..... i think that is the way it goes for most people

I often do my own and get a friend to double check me on my intonation just to be sure.

I have a friend who's a bit handier than me, and does set up stuff for me occasionally if I want him to. He just recently wired the pickups to his Les Paul so he can pull out a knob to play out of phase.

I'm kind of in this camp. I do a lot on my own and have no trouble setting action, floating bridge, neck relief, and intonation. However, if my fret leveling has issues and I can't handle the buzzes...it's off to a pro.

I do my own due to the fact I paid a pro to do my strat and when I got it back it played like crap. i had to strip it and redo it myself. i like my action super low( if you can get a thin pick between the fret and string it's too high) A.53 pick by the way.

I always do my own set-ups. I never did before because I think guitar players tend to think that there is some sort of magic involved but after you learn some things and then more on top of that then you just know what to do to get a guitar where it should be set-up wise.
