ok who or what made you wanna pick up a instrument, and play music on it...

for me it was Megadeth, when i first hear them and hear the great guitar solo and the deep sound they had right there i went to the guitar store got me a guild guitar cant rem the model but had fins on the the body and some kind of a Floyd, was a sweet axe... all black.. from there i took guitar lessons for about two years. then from then on played n bands,

but i like Dave Mustaine playing style... how he did solos and riffs. and how they all went well together... with the rest of the band. ....

thats the short version.....

Im 43. My first guitar teacher was a sub music teacher I had in 6th grade. His name is Joe Podorsek and too my surprise was friends with as well as guitar teacher too Ted Nugent and also played guitar in some of the Motown Hits. What luck.
Our regular teacher was out for 2 weeks and her name ironically was Mrs. Pantera. She always wheeled out the Piano and we'd sing Grand Old Flag and other 6th grade early 70's standards.
Well Joe come in with his Fender Twin on Wheels and his Strat and the next two weeks we learned Mama's and the Papa's,CCR and a ton of killer guitar oriented stuff I would have otherwise never payed attention too.
I took lessons that Joe offered at the Junior HS for 6 weeks and even though I hardly progressed the basics he taught me applied to everything guitar Ive since tried or heard.
Next epiphany on guitar for me would be in 78 when I heard that damn Van Halen album. Nothings been the same since.

i was about 11 or 12 i suppose i listened to vanilla ice, MC hammer, and paula abdul and the like, never heard of rock music, no idea it exsisted, then on my favorite pop radio station on day i heard ozzy singing no more tears, i was like OMFG that is what music should sound like..... next day i went to my friend josh's house and was telling him all about this new music i heard called ozzy, and he tells me that not new that guys i older than dirt my dad listens to him....... i said but its new i heard the radio guy say it, brand new music from ozzy osbourne, josh proceded to show me his dad's cassette collection, he played black sabbath paranoid and blew my mind, then he said this is the one i like, played led zeppelin's fourth album, i never listened to vanilla ice again........ first band from that era that got me all wet and made me want to play guitar was guns and roses, but alas i didn't know who slash was, i wanted to be axl, funny how we learn how gay our childhood idols were when we grow up.......

Probably what got me into music was listening to Beatles albums when I was little. Also I remember hearing the high school jazz band do this sweet funk song when I was little, and it made me really want to play music.

I liked 50's-60's rock music, things like Churck Berry, Beatles, Stones, WHo, Kinks, and garage rock. That got me playing guitar.

But punk rock showed me anybody could rock out out. You didn't need to get signed to a abel, or play anything fancy, or even learn anybody else's songs. That got me playing in bands.

True. I think that grunge got a lot of people into trying to play music with others. For example, back when I thought Nirvana was really great, I got my first distortion pedal and started jamming with other kids at school. I've always dug improvisation. Also, indie bands have been influencing and inspiring me a lot as of late. The idea that now with computer recording you don't necessarily need a label or anything is really inspiring. Also old Ween albums are sweet because it was just them recording ideas on an old 4 track recorder.
