any of you use homemade strap locks...... if so what do you use and how...

for me i use two metal washers... and one plastic one... i put a metal washer on each side of the strap... then on the bottom goes one plastic one... then i put the screw threw and screw it into the guitar... works great and cheap cost me like a buck total for everything..:)

I just use a Planet Wave strap that comes with 'locks'. there is a dial that rotates and it locks onto my guitar. No issues with it at all. Then again I'm just a beginner and not doing much besides sitting or standing while I practice for about an hour every other day.

I make them out of old credit cards. or the fake ones one gets sent in the mail offering new credit cards. I cut a disk about the width of a strap, put a hole in the center (punch through with a scissors and then turn like a drill bit), placing two cuts outward so that the hole can be "stretched" for a second while forcing it over the end of the strap pin, like so:

-O-

These will eventually wear out over the years, but I keep an eye on them and replace as necessary. I haven't had one fail yet.

Is this safe? Strap locks aren't that expensive and I never trusted cheap ones and home made. The last thing I want is smashing my guitar on the floor in the middle of the gig.
Also, how deep do you put the screw? Can you damage anything if you put it too deep?
