I must say, the Mesa Boogie F- Series is a versatile amp.  I've used the F-50 head and combo and the F-100 head.  (the 100-watt head is switchable to 100-watts or 60-watts on the front panel)

This may sound odd... but I actually liked the F-series as much as my Roadster (I didn't need all the bells and whistles) and the F-series are much more simple for the simple man... like me :)

/agree the F-50 i played a bass through sounded cool as heel, wish someone could have kept it to use as a bass amp LOL

I don't believe I've ever played a Mesa, even in a store or something.  I know next to nothing about Mesas in general.

Is the F-series meant to be a no-frills type amp that's less expensive than other Mesas?

How much do these things run?  My vague impression of Mesas is that, like Marshalls, even used they are usually too rich for my blood.

The F-series line is discontinued and (in my opionion) underrated.  You can find them used for a fair price.  Usually around $750 though I have found them for around $500 (used) if you shop for them. I think new they sold for around $1299 - $1399-ish

They're a more simple machine, but still 2-channel and a contour (for that added boost).  The F-30s are 30-watt and use EL34 while the F-50 and F-100 (50-watt and 100-watt) use 6L6s (my favorite valve). And they have a built in spring reverb. 

The tones are rich, the cleans really excel. The amp has nice crunch and drive and with a simple click of the contour on footswitch (or front panel) the amp becomes a raging beast of pure raw metal tones. 

If you read the Harmony-Central page, you'll see that a number of different stylists use the amp. It's very versatile and very durable. (and loud as hell!)

I love the design (stealth look). The control panel is laid out for no-frills / easy to use, however, the eq system is very touchy, is instrumental and defined to tweak. (which can be a good thing for guys who love to take the time to tweak --and bad thing for a plug-n-play noob)

All three series come in either head or 1x12 combo (2x12 combo for the F-100). And I found some interesting colors in tolex from black, whine red and even green.

The F 50 I played was a Great sounding amp and sweet at about 1/3 its total volume.
The 100 watter Black Shadow could take the whole load easy though and sounded Vintage as well as Modern.
I pushed the front with a TS9 and it was Any and every tone I could want.
Sadly it was a loaner and went back when my DSL was replaced.
F series kick ass though as do most of the Boogie line IMO.

Thanks for the info Sandman.  I'll never be a proper amp collector 'cause all the good stuff is pricey, and I'm a cheap bastard.  Iirc, the most I've spent on a single piece of amp gear is $300.

Maybe if I hit the lottery.

I've always just played what ever sounded good to me. But those sound SWEET, I'll have to keep an eye out for one at a killer price.

mmm they sound great... i was thinking of adding another mesa to my sound, maybe by slaving one...  I might get a Mark IV or maybe a F-100 now...

I loved my F-30 when I had it.  Unfortunately I only had it for about a week and a half before my friend tried it and offered me more than I paid for it, plus new tubes for the next amp I bought, so I had to go with it.

IMO, the cleans on it were better than my Mark IV.  The Mark IV has nice cleans but they're just way too warm for my tastes and can't get them to be more chimey without changing settings on the back panel, which in turn change the sound of the other channels.

I got a great deal on mine though, $712 out the door for it new at Guitar Center.  Guess they really wanted to get rid of it!

You stole it.  They were probably moving out discontinued old stock.  yeah, the F-series will always be a top favorite for me.  I like it better than a Recto.

Haha, yeah I saw the price tag on it and had to grab it.  I agree though, I love the F-Series, great amps and very versatile.
